Free Printable Moving Checklist: 8 Weeks to Moving Day
A move has hundreds of small tasks, and most of the stress comes from trying to remember them all. A printable moving checklist puts every task on one page, in the right order, so you can focus on one week at a time instead of the whole move.
Below you can download our free printable moving checklist, plus a short guide on how to use it.

What Is in the Printable Moving Checklist?
The checklist is split into four simple stages:
- 8 weeks before: budget, movers, decluttering and supplies
- 4 weeks before: address changes, utilities and packing the rooms you use least
- 1 week before: packing, labeling and confirming the details
- Moving day: final checks, keys and unpacking the essentials
Each section has blank lines so you can add tasks that are specific to your move.

How to Use Your Moving Checklist
Start Eight Weeks Out
The earlier you start, the calmer the move. Use the first weeks to declutter before moving, because every item you let go is one less item to pack, carry and unpack.
Keep It Somewhere Visible
Stick the checklist on the fridge or keep it in your moving folder. Tick each task as soon as it is done.
Pack Room by Room
Start with rooms you use least, such as the guest room, storage areas and garage. Leave the kitchen and bathroom until the last week. Our guide to declutter the garage is a good first project.
Prepare an Essentials Box
Pack one box with everything you need on the first night: bedding, towels, toiletries, chargers, medicine, snacks, a kettle and toilet paper. Label it clearly and keep it with you.
Clean As You Go
Clean each room as soon as it is empty. Our move out cleaning checklist lists every task, room by room.
Tips for a Calm Move
- Label boxes with the room and a few words about what is inside.
- Take a photo of cables before you unplug electronics.
- Keep important papers in one folder that does not go in the truck.
- Plan easy meals for the last and first few days.
- Use a printable grocery list for your first shop in the new home.
Common Moving Mistakes to Avoid

The most common moving mistake is starting too late. A printable moving checklist helps because it shows you, week by week, what must be done. Another mistake is packing without labels. You will spend hours looking for the kettle on the first night. People also forget to change their address until mail goes missing. Keep the printable moving checklist on the fridge and tick off each task as you finish it. If you are moving with children, give them a small box of their own favorite things to pack and carry. It makes the move feel less scary and helps them settle in faster.
What to Do on the First Day in Your New Home
Open your essentials box first, make the beds and set up the bathroom. Then unpack the kitchen basics so you can make a simple meal. Leave decor and books for later. One calm first evening makes the rest of the unpacking much easier.
