Bathroom Cleaning Checklist: Sparkling in 15 Minutes
The bathroom is small, but it is often the room people put off cleaning the longest. The good news is that a small room cleans fast when you follow the right order. With this bathroom cleaning checklist, a regular clean takes about 15 minutes, and the room looks and smells fresh for days.
The secret is simple: clean from top to bottom and from the cleanest areas to the dirtiest. That way, dust and drips fall onto surfaces you have not cleaned yet, and you never spread germs from the toilet to the sink.

What You Need
Before you start this bathroom cleaning checklist, keep these supplies together in one caddy or under the sink, so you can start without searching:
- An all-purpose spray cleaner
- A bathroom or tile cleaner
- A toilet cleaner and a toilet brush
- Glass cleaner, or water with a little vinegar
- Two or three microfiber cloths (use one only for the toilet)
- A small scrub brush or an old toothbrush
- Rubber gloves
Safety first: never mix cleaning products, especially bleach with vinegar or with ammonia. Mixing them can release harmful fumes. Open a window or turn on the fan while you clean.
The 15-Minute Bathroom Cleaning Checklist
Follow these steps in order. The first one saves you the most time.
1. Clear and Spray (2 minutes)
Take everything off the counter, the shower ledges and the top of the toilet. Then spray the shower or bath, the sink and the inside of the toilet with cleaner, and leave it to work while you do the next steps. Letting the cleaner sit is what makes scrubbing easy.
2. Dust and Wipe High Surfaces (2 minutes)
Start at the top. Wipe the light fixture, the top of the mirror, shelves and the top of the cabinet. Dust falls down, so it always goes first.
3. Clean the Mirror (1 minute)
Spray glass cleaner on the cloth, not on the mirror, and wipe in an S-shape from top to bottom. This avoids streaks and drips.
4. Clean the Sink and Counter (3 minutes)
Scrub the sink, the tap and the area around the drain with the brush. Rinse, then wipe the counter and dry the tap with a dry cloth. A shiny tap makes the whole bathroom look clean.
5. Scrub the Shower or Bath (3 minutes)
The cleaner has been working for several minutes, so the scrubbing is quick. Scrub the walls, the floor of the shower or the tub, and the taps. Rinse everything with warm water. For glass doors, a squeegee leaves them clear.
6. Clean the Toilet (3 minutes)
The toilet always comes last among the fixtures, with its own cloth.
- Scrub the inside of the bowl with the brush and flush.
- Wipe the handle, the lid and the seat, top and bottom.
- Wipe the base and the floor around it.
7. Floor and Finish (1 minute)
Put back the items you removed, swap in fresh towels and a clean bath mat, and empty the bin. Then sweep or vacuum the floor and wipe it from the far corner toward the door.
That is the full bathroom cleaning checklist: seven steps, about 15 minutes, and a fresh bathroom.
Weekly Bathroom Cleaning Checklist vs Deep Clean
The 15-minute checklist above is your weekly clean. A few times a year, add these deeper tasks:
- Scrub the grout lines with a brush and tile cleaner
- Wash or replace the shower curtain and liner
- Descale the shower head and the taps
- Clean inside the cabinets and drawers
- Wash the bin and wipe the walls and the door
Many people add these to their Monthly Home Reset or to a seasonal clean.
How to Keep the Bathroom Clean Between Cleans
A few tiny daily habits make your weekly bathroom cleaning checklist much faster:
- Wipe the sink after brushing your teeth in the evening. It is part of our Evening Reset Routine.
- Squeegee the shower walls after each use to stop water marks and soap scum.
- Hang towels to dry instead of leaving them on the floor.
- Keep the counter clear. Fewer products on the counter means a 30-second wipe instead of five minutes.
If your bathroom cabinet is overflowing, the bathroom section of our Declutter Checklist helps you clear out expired products and empty bottles.
